Moon in Hantum Above you see the present moon phase in Hantum. Because the Tibetan calendar is based on the movements of the moon and ceremonies are generally related to its appearance, it is convenient to keep an eye on the moon during your practice. For synchronizing the pujas and sadhanas around the world, Tibetan Buddhism adheres to the moon´s appearance in Lhasa, Tibet´s capital. But because the moon cycle is not an exact multiple (integer) of whole days, but has 3/10 of a day behind the comma, it can happen that the full moon date sometimes falls on different dates in different time zones as below picture of the actual day and night situation with the moon's position illustrates.
If you want to see what the exact full moon date is in Lhasa, you could adjust your PC to local Lhasa time and check the above picture again before resetting your PC to its old settings. The external (server side) program that generates the graphics will then render the moon phase of time zone you set... so that you do not have to celebrate Tibetan new year longer than necessary, for example. An easy to print agenda is supplied herewith for you to plan your practice and booked programs on. On this diary you can also see how many days remain until the next full moon and it shows the special days according to the Tibetan almanac. |
